Swiffer Mop Reuseable Pad

So my swiffer mop that we bought when we got married 5 years ago broke in half a couple of months ago.  I was in denial for awhile and tried duct taping it together and finally I had to cave and throw it out and get a new one.  The previous pads that I had made don't fit the new design so I received that opportunity to make new ones and they look way better then my original ones.  I used an old towel that I didn't use anymore.

First I wrapped the towel around the mop to see how much I needed allowing a little extra for a seam allowance.

I also cut a semi circle out of the middle to allow it to lay flat on the top of the mop.
I also cut out holes where the spray nozzles are.

I then found some scrap fabric to create a binding for the sides and every place that I cut so the towel wouldn't fray more and more every time I wash it.

The little holes for the sprayer aren't the most pretty for the binding but I was okay with that.

This is what it ended up looking like after I put the binding on.

Bring the ends together I sewed one side of it together to create a wrap and then I flipped it outside out.

On the other side I put velcro on it so I could easy get the pad on and off of the mop.

The finished product!!!

Hello Friend Party at Sassy Sites

There is an awesome party over at Sassy Sites for those blogs that are less than a year old.  She asked that we answer some questions so here we go:

Why did you start blogging?

I started because I loved reading everyone's projects and I thought that I would like to share what I make here are home as well.  I also wanted something to keep me motivated to keep being creative while my husband is studying every night.

When you aren't blogging what are you doing?

I'm taking care of my children, I have a 4 year old and 3 month old.  I try to spend as much time with them as I can, and with my husband.
What is your blog about?

I would like my blog to be about ideas for kids and making things that are useful for around the house as well as those things that make the house look good.  We also like to cook at our house so I throw in some recipes.  :)

When do you find time to blog?

I find time at night when the kids are asleep and I usually do a week's worth of posts at a time and explore what is out there.  Then every morning I link up to link parties.

Why do you love blogging?
I love the motivation that it gives me to keep being creative and not become lazy sitting in front of the TV every night.  It also gives me something to look forward to everyday.

What is your favorite post so far that you have written?

Is it bad that I have three that are together?  The first one was my bumper cover I was pretty excited that I was able to make it and that it fit perfectly.  The second one is my blueberry jelly its my first time making something like this and by myself too.  The third one was my most popular post I was surprise that it was such a hit my workbook for 2-4 year olds.

Shelves Before and After

So when we moved here I had never seen the place until I walked in the door.  I was greeted with the kitchen and the "dining room"  then I saw this:

It was empty of course, but the thought process went like this:  "Great, something to accumulate junk on."  and "What the heck am I suppose to put here?"  As you can tell from the picture it does have junk on it and it doesn't matter how many times it gets cleaned out almost immediately stuff gets put back on it.   I finally got sick of it and took everything down and cleaned it. I figured if I fill the lower shelves where we can reach so we can't really move stuff maybe it will lessen the amount of clutter that shows up so far it has worked!!  We will see for how long here is after:

Jamestown

The last historical place we went to on our trip was Jamestown, where the first settlement was when the pilgrims first came to America.

At the visitor's center they have all kinds of things for kids to do and explore!!  There is a replica of the fort.

There are replicas of the three ships that they sailed across in!!

There is a Native American village as well

Then we went to the actual place where they are excavating the foundations of building where the fort really was!!  That was cool!
This is the foundation of the actual church where John Rolfe and Pocahontas got married, the little flags that you see in the middle is where they believe they stood when they got married.

It is definitely a place to check out if you are in the area!!!
