Homemade Bean Bags

I made these the other day, seriously they were really simple to put together and I was able to get them done in a nap time.  I used the pattern Simplicity 5105 and to fill it I used pillow filling.  The big bags of it were on sale at JoAnn's (I might go get another bag and split it between the two) plus then it will be really easy to wash if needed.

Here is the one I made for my daughter.

Here is my son's.

Watermelon Cards

My daughter and I made these last week, when we were reviewing the letter w.  I cut them out with my cricut and she glued them together.  She thought it was so cool.  Now she is having fun writing notes in them to send to people.

Cookies and Cream Ice Cream

For Christmas my parents gave us an ice cream maker.  It has been used a lot lately and we are having way too much fun with it.  This is our latest creation with it.  My husband loves cookies and cream ice cream so we had to make some.

We found a recipe and then made some changes to it and love it.  Here is our take on the recipe:

Print Here

Cookies and Cream Ice Cream

2 cups half-n-half
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup sugar, divided
3 tsp vanilla extract
5 egg yolks
10-15 crushed cookies depending on how much you want

In a medium saucepan set over medium-low heat, whisk together the half-n-half, milk, half of the sugar.  Bring the mixture just to a boil.

While the cream mixture is heating, combine the yolks and remaining sugar in a medium bowl.  Beat until mixture is pale and thick.

Once the cream mixture comes to a slight boil, whisk 1/2 of the hot mixture into the yolk/sugar mixture.  Then return the combined mixture to the saucepan.  Using a wooden spoon, stir the mixture constantly over low heat until it thickens slighty and coats the back of the spoon.  This mixture must NOT boil or the yolks will overcook-the process should only take a few minutes.

Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.  Stir in the vanilla extract.  Cover and refrigerate for several hours, or overnight.  Pour the mixture into your ice cream maker according to its directions.  When the ice cream is almost done add the crushed cookies to mix it into the ice cream.  When done transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and place in freezer for about 2 hours.

Ice Cream Addition

I found this idea when looking around education websites I don't remember where now I have been looking at a few of them.  This game is easy to put together all you need is a couple of pictures of ice cream cones divided into 11 sections (the first one I did had 12), a pair of dice and crayons.

To play the game: roll the dice and add them together then color in that section of the picture,  the first one to color in the picture wins.

Yarn Vases with Kids

This past week my daughter and I made these they were easy, messy and fun to do.  So it was a hit with her.

Materials that we used were tennis ball containers, yarn, water, glue and paper towels.

We mixed water and glue together to make the glue last longer.  Then we dipped in a pre-cut length of yarn (there is no specific length its up to you).

Then we "squeezed" most of the water glue mixture out of the string.

Start wrapping the string around the container.  We started at the bottom of the container and it took a couple of tries to get it to stay at first but then we didn't have any problems.

Continue with the same color the whole way or switch colors.

When finished we let them dry overnight and they were set to go.  This week's project is to make paper flowers to go in them.

July's Monthly Cleaning Goal

Here is July's Monthly Cleaning Goal.  I'm going to use this to also get everything organized and probably decorate some of the rooms since we are still getting settled in our new house.
