Spider craft

My kids LOVED making these and we have had them hanging from the ceiling of the toy room all fall.  I cut up an egg carton then I poked holes in each of the sides with a really sharp pencil (I didn't want huge holes).  I also threaded some string through the top of the "spider body" so we could hang them later.  I pulled out the pipe cleaners and let the kids have fun.  My two year old did great with it, he could stick the pipe cleaner through one side easily but needed a little help to get it through the second hole but he could then pull it the rest of the way through.  After they had legs I gave them a marker and they drew eyes on the spiders.

My son showing off one of his he made.

One of my daughter's spiders she thought it was fun to have their legs going all crazy.

Sandpaper t-shirts

So I found this idea on Pinterest a while ago on making t-shirts with sandpaper.  I kept forgetting to buy the stuff when I was at the store, then my daughter was going to have a couple of her friends over I immediately thought of these shirts.  The directions I used are here.  I would be careful about what you put in the dryer right after having these shirts in there for a little bit "setting the picture" the load (luckily it was darks) had a couple of clothes that were a little bit more pink than before.

The girls had a blast making these and my daughter has worn hers quite a few times since.

Watermelon Cards

My daughter and I made these last week, when we were reviewing the letter w.  I cut them out with my cricut and she glued them together.  She thought it was so cool.  Now she is having fun writing notes in them to send to people.

Yarn Vases with Kids

This past week my daughter and I made these they were easy, messy and fun to do.  So it was a hit with her.

Materials that we used were tennis ball containers, yarn, water, glue and paper towels.

We mixed water and glue together to make the glue last longer.  Then we dipped in a pre-cut length of yarn (there is no specific length its up to you).

Then we "squeezed" most of the water glue mixture out of the string.

Start wrapping the string around the container.  We started at the bottom of the container and it took a couple of tries to get it to stay at first but then we didn't have any problems.

Continue with the same color the whole way or switch colors.

When finished we let them dry overnight and they were set to go.  This week's project is to make paper flowers to go in them.

Mother's Day Flowers

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Mother's day yesterday.  I can now share this project because I didn't want to spoil the surprise for Grandma's.  The kids and I made these last week for the Grandma's but this is a great spring project to do as well and put them around the house.  My daughter cut out all of her hands after we traced them so it was a great cutting exercise for her as well.  My son is a year old, so I only traced his hands once then made a pattern from those.

Homemade Wrapping Paper

My daughter was invited to her first birthday party last weekend, she was so excited.  We went to wrap the present right before leaving to the party and I realized that the only wrapping paper that we had was Christmas themed.  I didn't have enough time to run to the store so this is what we did.

I found some tissue paper that I had and pulled out what stamps we had and let my daughter go to town stamping the paper.  She thought that it was so much fun and she was so proud of the fact that she was able to make the wrapping paper for her present.

I thought that it turned out pretty cute for a last minute idea and with just a couple of minutes to do it.

Turkey In Disguise

For my daughter's pre-k class they were asked to disguise a turkey so he wouldn't get eaten this Thanksgiving.  I love the idea and I loved that they asked for it to be a family project, this is what we came up with:

Here is our before.

After, I think that he is disguised pretty well don't you?  Go make one with your kids it was tons of fun to do!!

Turkey Table Centerpiece

My daughter and I made this last week it kind of evolved as we went along.  First we were just going to make one turkey, then I had her cutting stuff out and thought it was good practice for her, so we ended up with 5 of them.  Then I realized that there was no way that the turkey's were going to stand by themselves so then I grabbed the empty toilet paper roll and glued the turkey's onto it.  This what it ended up being.

It turned out kind of fun I think.

Feet Ghosts

I found this idea on a few parties and I just loved it.  My favorite part probably was hearing the kids giggle as I painted their feet.  I made a set for each of the grandparents as well, but they probably wont get them until after Halloween at this point but they can enjoy them for next year.

Pumpkin Jello

I made these the other night for a treat for Family Home Evening when we carved our pumpkins.

I used mint pieces for decorations because that is all I had :) (I just now noticed that one of the eyes fell off of the worm sorry)

Here is the recipe its super easy:

2 packages (6 oz) orange gelatin
2 1/2 cups boiling water
1 cup cold milk
1 package (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix

Dissolve gelatin in water; set aside for 30 min.  Whisk milk and pudding mix until smooth, about 1 minute.  Quickly pour into gelatin; whisk until well blended.  Pour into an oiled 13inx9in pan.  Chill until set.  Cut into circles or use a pumpkin-shaped cookie cutter.  Just before serving, add candy eyes and mouths.

ENJOY!!!!!

Apple Basket with Scissors

This month my daughter's pre-k program asked us to work on cutting with scissors this is something we did last week.

I drew some "apples" on some construction paper and then my daughter cut them out.  Then we made a basket to put them "in."   This week I am planning on having her add some flowers and maybe a pumpkin for her to cut out as well.

Leaves for your Window

This is similar to something that my daughter and I did in the spring with crayons.  These are fun to look at and creates some cool shadows to look at as well.

First thing we did was go outside and find some "cool" leafs.  Then collected the rest of the supplies that we needed which were:

Turn your iron on a low setting and allow it to warm up while you design how you want your leaves to look on the wax paper.

This was my daughter's favorite part she can't wait to do more when we find some other colored leaves.  Lay your leaves on half of the wax paper.

Then fold your wax paper over creating a "sandwich" around the leaves.

Then put the wax paper between some paper,  I like using that brown paper that comes in some packages.  Then run the iron over it for about 30 sec and then check to see if the wax paper is sealing together,  keep rubbing and checking until its sealed together it might take a little bit depending on how warm your iron is.

This is what it looks like when it is sealed.

Then hang in your windows to enjoy the different colors in your window.
