Necklace Holder

Okay so confession time.....I have an addiction to Paparazzi Jewelry.  If you haven't tried it you should!!  It isn't expensive and it is cute!!!  So......because of my addiction, I have run out of space. I was getting tired of my necklaces getting all tangled up and I couldn't see all that I had. I decided to do something about it. This is what I came up with.

It started with me asking my husband to cut me an 18" long piece of wood. Then I stained it.

It's kind of hard to see, but after the stain dried I marked out dots evenly for the hooks to go, I marked every inch and half.

To make it easier to screw the hooks into the board I made a little hole in each spot that I marked.

After screwing in each of the hooks, I added the vinyl and a couple of hangers on the back of the board.

The finished product!!!! I love it!

Antique Piano Repurposing Part 3- Angel Ornaments

I have a few more projects to share with you and this piano.  Here is another one I was hoping to get it up last month but the month just away from me.

I used some of the hammers from the piano to make these beautiful ornaments. I made tons of them, I also gave one to each of my piano students as their Christmas gift.  Check them out :)

Scarecrow/Snowman Wood Project

So a few months ago I saw this pinned all over the place and thought it was really cute.  I decided I would make one for myself.  Mine ended up being a lot bigger then hers but I love how it turned out.  Here is my scarecrow side for the fall.

Here is a close up of the snowman side.

Here is my front porch for the winter.  I love that I am able to get two seasons out of this decoration!!

Yearly Family Ornaments

We have a tradition that every year we take a family picture in front of our Christmas tree.  I decided that I needed to do something special with those pictures and have something that I can add to eat year.  After brainstorming with my mom this is what I came up with.  I bought the plastic clear ornaments and printed off our picture for each year, added a red bow and cut out green vinyl with the year.

Here is where I hung them up.  I wanted some place a bit different then the tree to display them.  Now whoever comes and visits they can see them right when they walk in the house.

Believe Sign

I saw a sign here and I loved it so I thought I would try making it myself.  I haven't had too much success making stencils and wood signs but I did this one differently and it turned out great!

After painting my board with chalk paint and letting it dry.  I cut out my letters using vinyl, (after doing this and some more investigating I read that contact paper works great as well) then using the paint that I used as my base I painted the edges of the letters and let that dry to prevent the new color of paint from bleeding under the stencil.  I then painted my stencil.

Here it is after I removed the stencil. I decided it was a bit too white, so I watered down some brown paint and rubbed it onto my board.  I know there are many ways to make your board look older this is just what I did because it was what I had conveniently located.

Temple Primary Bulletin Board

I know that I posted something on Monday with Primary but I also wanted to show you guys what we are doing throughout the year on one of our bulletin boards.  With the theme this year being Families Are Forever we wanted to focus on the temple and that our goal is to go there.

I didn't take pictures of the first steps I did.  I took a picture of the temple that we are assigned to attend and divided it into 12 squares one for each month of the year.  Then using that "grid" I drew it onto 12x12 sheets of paper.  Some of the "squares" are smaller then others.  Since the Washington DC temple has 6 spires there are a few months that we only add the spires. This picture is when I had drawn everything out in pencil and I wanted to make sure that it looked like the temple.

This is after I went over all my pencil lines with a sharpie marker and then cut out the pieces.  I wanted to see what it looked like completely.  After I took this picture I colored Moroni yellow so he popped out a little bit more (he is on the first spire on the left).

Here is the bulletin board.  At the beginning of each month we glue a new square onto the board.  With it being February now we have two squares but I took this picture last month. :) The kids are having fun trying to figure out what the picture is, some already know but we told them to keep it to themselves so the others can still figure it out.  I can't wait to see it completely on the board.

Birthday Blocks

At church I work with the kids up to age 12 we don't have a lot of kids in our group just because of the size of the congregation, so we wanted to do something a little different for them then the usual pencil and bracelet.  This is what we came up with.

We had a 2x4 cut into 6 inch pieces for us.  We made a total of 20 complete blocks and we still have probably another 15 unpainted blocks leftover from the project.  As you can see we painted them all black.

After the paint dried we used mod podge and attached a picture of the temple that we have been assigned to attend.  In this case it is the Washington D.C. temple.  We were originally going to find out what each kid's favorite temple was but then decided that it would cost too much and might be difficult to get a picture of that temple the size we wanted.  After the mod podge dried we added the vinyl saying (which I cut out on my cricut and I got about 26 of the saying's to the sheet) then put another layer of mod podge to secure the vinyl on the blocks (mostly because we were giving them to the kids).

For the girls we attached a purple ribbon around the block.  After giving the first block to one of the older girls yesterday I suggest hot gluing the completely around the blocks.  I only glued under the block and she had untied it and removed the ribbon from the block then had trouble getting it back on.  The boys are receiving green ribbon and I hot glued the ribbon all around it.

The overall cost for everything less then $10

The 2x4 was around $8, I already had the mod podge as well as the paint and we really didn't use that much of either.  We made copies of the pictures of the temple and then I only used one sheet of vinyl that cost me $.99  We are excited how it turned out and the kids were excited to see them for our first birthdays.

Singing time helps

Because of my assignment at church and how things are working out right now I do the singing time with the kids at church every other week.  These are some little paddles that I made to allow the kids to take turns to stand up in front of the other kids while they are singing and hold them up giving them directions on how to sing.  It was the biggest hit when I did it, I know that this idea has been around for years but I thought that I would share what I made and it is also a printable here if you want to use what I did.

Music Covered Vase

In case you didn't see my remote crate from Monday it is here.  I need something to go on the other side of the cabinet from it and I wanted some color so this is what I came up with.

I had paper flowers that I made a couple of years ago for entirely different project that is going to happen now since we are moving in the next few months.  The directions that I used are here.  I painted them red, the painting was probably the most time consuming part of the entire project.  Then I glue the flowers onto wood skewers that I painted green.

Onto to making the vase.  I used a cardboard box that I had laying around the house and cut four matching pieces.

Then using packing tape I taped them into a square.

I also taped a bottom onto it.

My son loved this part I Mod Podge'd chunks of sheet music onto the vase I had made.  He stuck the pieces on for me.

When it dried completely I added the flowers and some moss on top.

Here it is all completed.  I'm trying to decide if I'm going to put some fabric underneath everything or not.

TV Remote Crate

We seem to always have a problem of where to put our remotes.  Kind of out of frustration of them not having a place I used a crate that we had laying around from buying some oranges and put them in there then it sat like this for a few months.  My husband and I both liked having the crate but I needed it to be a bit nicer looking and without glue on the sides.

So first things first I used a flat head screwdriver and peeled the glue off of both sides of the crate.  I did manage to put quite a few dents in the sides and scraped some skin off of my fingers but it came off.  I'm sure there was a much easier way to do that but that is what I went it.

Then I sanded the sides down a little bit to make it look not so beat up.

I didn't want it a dark brown nor did I want to sit around and stain it, what I ended up doing was mixing some white paint into the brown I had then painted it on both sides.

Next was stenciling the word remotes on each side.

It feels so much better to me when I walk by this now (which is a million times a day)
