Jamestown

The last historical place we went to on our trip was Jamestown, where the first settlement was when the pilgrims first came to America.

At the visitor's center they have all kinds of things for kids to do and explore!!  There is a replica of the fort.

There are replicas of the three ships that they sailed across in!!

There is a Native American village as well

Then we went to the actual place where they are excavating the foundations of building where the fort really was!!  That was cool!
This is the foundation of the actual church where John Rolfe and Pocahontas got married, the little flags that you see in the middle is where they believe they stood when they got married.

It is definitely a place to check out if you are in the area!!!

Williamsburg

Part 2 of our trip!!!  We spent a couple of days in Williamsburg, we weren't even close to touching everything that you can do there.

They have a street drama that they do daily that is about how the Boston Tea Party affected them and they became involved with what was going on during that time.

You can actually rent rooms in some of the buildings for you visit.  I didn't know this until after we had already left that would be cool to stay in one of the homes in the town.

They have a really cool museum that you can look through.  My daughter loved the small carousel in the middle of one of the rooms.

They called this the public hospital but it was where they sent the people they thought were crazy.

Looking down the main street!!

Another view

Be careful you never know when you will get called into the militia to defend yourselves!!
We had a blast, it was a little warm but it was still a great experience.  We have already book a hotel to go back at Christmas time and see what they do (they decorate in the time period) and explore the town some more.

Monticello

For part of our vacation we were able stop and visit this place.  For those of you that don't know (don't worry I didn't know about it until a couple of months ago) this is Monticello Thomas Jefferson's home and plantation that he had.  There is so much to do here, we spent a couple hours there and there was still tons to do.

Here is a view from one of the gardens.

This is a foundation from one of the dwellings that the slaves used to live in.

This is the front of the house where you start the tour.  You can't take pictures of the inside of the house, but let me tell you its pretty cool.  It is very interesting all the little gadgets that he had to help out around the house.

The kitchen.

Here is his gravestone/monument.  Its inside the family graveyard.

This place was a blast, they had activities for the kids to do, my daughter wrote a note for her dad with a quill and ink as well as different games to play.  They also give garden tours.  When we got there we also discovered that James Madison's home wasn't too far away that you could also tour I would like to do that the next time we head that direction.
